Many people would like to have an aquarium at home. It's both a decoration element and a piece of nature. One can spend hours watching fish "playing" among the rocks and bridges, caring for their babies...

For a fresh water aquarium, many arrangements are possible: respect of a natural biotope with plants, roots and rocks or, on the opposite, plastic ornaments; and also a mixture of both solutions with ruins or wrecks among rocks...

Everyone to his taste, fish have certainly no opinion about this, but they appreciate to have territories and shelters. As far as maintenance of the aquarium is concerned, there is a big difference between a naturally equilibrated biotope respecting fish needs and a totally artificial system with plastic plants and resin décor.

It depends on your level of knowledge in aquaria: beginner, specialist of one species, on the size of the aquarium, on the type of fish you want: several species together, cichlid fish......

Choice of rocks and proportion between rocks-plants and roots will wary according to these different parameters.

Lightning with control of quality, quantity and time, is very important for plant development and control of algae.

Place of the aquarium in the room has to be in a "dark" area: no direct natural light (proliferation of algae).

Very high aquariums are hard to maintain (problem of lightning and cleaning).
